🎷 The Music – From Swing to Modern Jazz

You’ll explore a range of jazz styles, from classic swing and bebop to contemporary fusion and groove-based music.

The focus is on understanding the feel and style of jazz — not just playing notes, but bringing the music to life.

🎶 Playing Together – The Heart of Jazz

Jazz is all about listening and interaction.

You’ll develop ensemble skills, learning how to play confidently as part of a group, communicate musically, and respond in the moment.

🎺 Improvisation – Made Accessible

Improvisation is a key part of jazz, but there’s no pressure.

You’ll be guided through simple, practical approaches to help you build confidence and start exploring your own ideas.

🌟 Learn from Outstanding Tutors

You’ll be guided by an outstanding team of professional jazz musicians:

Derek Nash – One of the UK’s most versatile saxophonists, known for his work with the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and his electrifying performances across jazz, funk, and Latin styles.

He has performed live and on TV with artists including Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Sir Paul McCartney, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Gregory Porter and Tom Jones, among many others.

Paul Higgs – Renowned trumpet player, keyboardist and bassist, composer, and arranger, bringing a wealth of experience from jazz, theatre, and orchestral worlds.

Marc Cecil – Highly experienced drummer with over 25 years in performance, appearing at venues including the Royal Opera House, The O2, Glastonbury Festival and Ronnie Scott’s.

He has worked with artists such as Mel C, Marti Pellow and Guthrie Govan, alongside an extensive West End and touring theatre career.

Trudy Kerr – Internationally celebrated jazz vocalist, praised for her expressive tone and exceptional musicianship, as well as her expertise in vocal coaching.

🎼 A Week of Music-Making

Across the week, you’ll rehearse as an ensemble, developing pieces together and growing in confidence.

The course finishes with a relaxed performance — a chance to share what you’ve created in a friendly, celebratory setting.
