The Lyons Den: The Voice Unleashed
Join The Lyons Mouth on an exploration of the voice through a range of repertoire, including Renaissance madrigals and upper voice polyphony, to contemporary works and brand new folk song arrangements. Expect a fun, explorative dive into what the voice can do and how we use the same text-led and dramatic approach to the whole range of repertoire.
In the den, you will encounter some of the most beautiful beasts of the renaissance, as well as playful young compositions from the new music scene. You will be invited to unleash your voice in new ways to meet the challenges of these encounters, and you will be gifted the wisdom of healthy vocal technique and tools from some of the best young professionals to do so. Workshops on “extended vocal techniques” and “how to beat box your way through a madrigal” will invite you to expand your repertoire of sounds in the aim of impactful storytelling. Ancient mythology will mix with English folk stories and nonsense songs will awaken the imagination…
Come with a curious mind, an open heart and a lion’s courage!
This course is for everyone, from trained young adults looking to step into the profession to those who have always thought they would like to sing classical music, but have only just plucked up the courage to try it. Afternoon sessions with The Lyons Mouth will be divided into small groups, with participants able to pick their own level; beginners (prefer to learn aurally rather than sight-reading), intermediate (experienced learning music quickly as part of a larger group) and advanced (confident singing one or two-to-a-part).
Sheet music will be available electronically in advance, it is not necessary to learn everything in advance if you feel confident sight reading, but as with everything, the more you put into the preparation, the more you will get out of the course.
