Our adult vocal ensembles invites singers to explore the full expressive range of the voice.

Led by The Lyons Mouth, this course moves fluidly between Renaissance madrigals and upper-voice polyphony, contemporary works, and newly arranged folk songs. Expect an imaginative and energising exploration of how text, drama and storytelling shape vocal sound across repertoire.

What You Will Explore

In the Den, you will encounter:

• Renaissance polyphony and madrigals

• Brand new folk song arrangements

• Contemporary vocal works

• English folk stories and mythological texts

• Playful and experimental repertoire

Participants will work with the same text-led and dramatic approach across styles, discovering how vocal colour, articulation and character transform storytelling.

Workshops on extended vocal techniques and imaginative approaches — from unconventional sounds to rhythmic experimentation — encourage singers to expand their expressive palette.

Vocal Technique and Creative Development

This adult vocal ensembles combines creative exploration with practical tools. Participants will gain:

• Guidance in healthy vocal technique

• Confidence in ensemble singing

• Experience in small-group collaboration

• New approaches to storytelling through sound

Sessions are led by young professional singers who combine artistic ambition with technical clarity and enthusiasm.

Who This Course Is For

The course welcomes:

• Trained young adults preparing for professional life

• Confident amateur singers

• Those new to classical singing who are ready to begin

• Singers who prefer learning aurally

• Sight-readers comfortable singing one-to-a-part

Afternoon sessions will be divided into small groups by level:

• Beginners – prefer to learn aurally

• Intermediate – experienced in ensemble singing

• Advanced – confident one or two-to-a-part singers

Preparation

Sheet music will be sent electronically in advance. As with all residential music courses, the more you invest beforehand, the more rewarding the week becomes.
