Choir Side On

Summer School Choir: Britten and Haydn Masterpieces

Sat 8th Aug to Sat 15th Aug
SS26

This choral course is dedicated to exploring two magnificent corners of the choral repertoire: Haydn’s Harmoniemesse and Britten’s Jubilate Deo and Te Deum. Under the expert guidance of Graham Ross, singers will work in an encouraging and productive environment to refine vocal technique, develop ensemble skills, and gain deeper insight into the musical and spiritual character of these remarkable works. Daily rehearsals will cover not just the notes but also the fascinating history of this music, and for singers of all levels this course will build confidence, artistry, and interpretive understanding. The course culminates in a celebratory final concert, offering the thrill of performing this uplifting music together with fellow singers and orchestra. Whether you are an experienced choral singer or eager to develop your skills further, this is a rewarding week of music-making, discovery, and shared enjoyment in a friendly, inclusive community.

Participants need to be fairly proficient in reading music, and some experience in choral singing would be desirable. Although there is no need to prepare in advance, all participants would be particularly encouraged to listen to the music beforehand, so that they come with it in their ears.

For this course and performance, the choral scores are: Haydn’s Harmoniemesse (Bärenreiter edition) and Britten’s Jubilate Deo and Te Deum (Chester editions).
