Connections – musical pathways in renaissance Europe

 

This course will explore the musical road map of sixteenth and early seventeenth century Europe. The super highways of court and chapel composers are well-known, but we will also explore the lesser-known routes to various styles and trends in vocal and instrumental repertoire, from large scale multi-choir works to more intimate part songs and instrumental fantasias, ricercare, and dance music.

To enjoy this course fully, participants should be good sight readers, and players should have a good technical command of their instruments. Players of renaissance wind, brass, reeds and strings are most welcome, as well as singers of all ranges. Sessions will alternate between mixed voices and instruments, and instruments only.
