Chamber Music

Co-ordinated by Rhiannon Evans featuring The Brook Street Band

The chamber music course offers formally organised opportunities to play chamber music together. You can choose how many sessions a day you would like to take part in Chamber Music as the course is available for all four sessions of the day. Formal coaching will be offered in session 2 for groups working at A=415 for Baroque repertoire and in sessions 3 and 4 for groups working on any repertoire at any pitch. Co-ordinated Chamber Music is available in session 1 but formal coaching is not offered in this session. Each participant will be assigned a group in advance, and suitable repertoire chosen depending on the numbers and standards. Pre-formed groups are welcome to bring their own repertoire.

If you wish to take part in chamber music, please complete the Chamber Music section on the booking form. If you have any specific requests for pieces you would like to work on, please mention these in the comments section on the form and we will do our best to include these. You will be contacted with details of you group and suggested repertoire before you arrive at the Summer School.

Chamber Music; Session 2

Baroque Time Travel

Join The Brook Street Band for an immersive week of baroque chamber music, exploring 17th and 18th century music. We’ll look at many aspects of playing in a historically appropriate style with a wide-ranging course designed for players on both period (A415) and modern (440) instruments. Learn about ensemble technique, ornamentation, phrasing, bowing, the role of the continuo, understanding and playing from figured bass…and so much more, enabling you to recreate the varied and wonderful sound-worlds of baroque composers including Handel, Bach, Corelli, Telemann and Boismortier. You’re welcome to bring any baroque/early classical music you’d like to work on either in facsimile or modern edition, and the course includes historical context and some social history of baroque composers with short informal illustrated talks. Course open to established chamber groups, and those happy to be organised into an ensemble for the week.
