Steven Devine

Steven Devine combines a career as a conductor and director of orchestral, choral and opera repertoire with that of a harpsichordist and fortepianist.  He is Conductor and Artistic Advisor of The English Haydn Festival; Music Director of New Chamber Opera, Oxford and Director of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s “Bach the Universe & Everything” series.  He has directed the OAE, the Academy of Ancient Music, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, City of London Sinfonia and many other orchestras in the UK.  In Canada he has worked with Arion (Montreal), Toronto Bach Ensemble and Victoria Baroque, BC.

He is the Principal Keyboard with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) and performs regularly with many other groups around Europe. His recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (Chandos Records) was described by Gramophone magazine as “among the best”. He is half way through recording a six-disc survey of the harpsichord music of Johann Ludwig Krebs, Bach’s favourite student.  His most recent release was of Bach Harpsichord Concerti with the OAE.

Steven Devine was educated at Chetham’s School of Music before reading Music at St Peter’s College, Oxford.  He is Early Keyboard Consultant to the Royal Welsh College and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as well as harpsichord and fortepiano teacher at the Royal Academy in London.
