Marcus Andrews
Marcus Andrews has given solo, chamber and concerto performances at major venues across London, as well as at music societies and festivals across the United Kingdom and beyond. For six years he toured and recorded across the UK and Finland with the Backman Trio and their CD of British and Finnish piano trios was released in 2014, receiving praise from Gramophone Magazine.
Marcus studied with Yvonne Dinwiddy, Simon Young and Neal Larrabee. During his studies at Trinity College of Music he was awarded the Trinity College of Music Keyboard Silver Medal and Jaques Samuel Pianos Prize. The was then appointed Graduate Assistant Accompanist at the University of Connecticut, where he gained a master’s degree.
Marcus was a regular bursary student and then steward and accompanist at Dartington International Summer School. He has worked as an accompanist at all the London conservatoires and regularly performs as a duo partner. With his wife, cellist Ruth Beedham, he has given a series of charity fundraising recitals for Great Ormond Street Hospital and associated charities. He won the TWIMC Accompanist Prize in 2000 and is now staff accompanist for that competition in Tunbridge Wells, where he lives with his young family. Marcus examines for the ABRSM, teaches at Highgate School and City Junior School, and tutors on the Kent International Piano Courses. In September he will start a in a new position as Head of Keyboard at Tonbridge School.
