Kinga Ujszászi is a distinguished Hungarian violinist and director, recognised for her artistry in historical performance. She began her musical journey at age four, later graduating from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest before moving to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where her passion for historical performance started. She directs the ensemble Spiritato and frequently leads renowned groups such as L’Arpeggiata, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, and Barokkanerne. She is a member of The English Concert and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, while often appearing with other ensembles as well. Kinga is also a founding member of the baroque duo Repicco.
Her discography reflects her commitment to rediscovering forgotten repertoire. Her acclaimed debut album, Assassini, Assassinati, with Repicco, explores 17th-century Italian music and earned five Diapasons and high praise from leading music journals With harpsichordist Tom Foster, her ongoing Cabinet of Wonders project uncovers rare violin sonatas from Dresden’s Schrank II collection, with two volumes released on First Hand Records. Recordings with Spiritato further showcase her dedication to unusual and neglected baroque works.
Kinga is widely admired for her expressive, creative, and technically commanding playing. Critics have praised her virtuosity and sensitivity. In addition to performing, she is an inspirational leader and teacher, often giving workshops and masterclasses. In 2019, she was honoured as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for her contributions to the field.
