Gavin Kibble

Cellist and viola da gamba player Gavin Kibble studied Music at the University of Oxford before going on to the Royal Academy of Music. His teachers have included Laurence Dreyfus, Jonathan Manson, Joseph Crouch, Juan Manuel Quintana and Gerhart Darmstadt. Although Gavin enjoys playing music in a wide range of different styles, he has developed a particular specialism in early music performance and is a member of the London Handel Players and of Solomons Knot baroque collective. In recent years he has also been a frequent guest principal of the Academy of Ancient Music and has remained involved with many other ensembles including the English Baroque Soloists, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Gabrieli Consort, the Sixteen, La Nuova Musica, the Dunedin Consort, I Fagiolini, Arcangelo, the Mozartists, La Serenissima, the English Concert and the Early Opera Company. His career has taken him around the world and he has worked with continental groups including Capella Mediterranea and Vox Luminis. Gavin features on many recordings, including most recently the London Handel Players playing Telemann’s Quadri, which was released on SOMM in March 2025. Gavin is a committed educator, and has a teaching practice where he lives in Hastings, on the south coast of the UK.
