Catriona Scott

Described as ‘the excellent soloist’ (Daily Telegraph) and praised for her ‘expressive playing’ (The Guardian), clarinettist Catriona Scott performs extensively as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Her many festival performances have included Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, North York Moors, Presteigne and St Magnus. She performs a varied and extensive repertoire, with diverse concerto performances including Mozart, Weber, Finzi, Goldschmidt, Hoddinott and Joseph Phibbs.

A passionate advocate of contemporary music, Catriona has enjoyed collaborations with composers including James Francis Brown, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Cecilia McDowall and David Matthews. She has premiered and recorded numerous works written especially for her including James Francis Brown’s Clarinet Concerto for Resonus Classics. With Gemini ensemble Catriona recorded chamber works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Philip Grange and Nicola LeFanu. She performed in the premiere and Irish tour of John O’Brien’s opera, The Nightingale and The Rose as an onstage musician-actor.

A dedicated and experienced educator, Catriona coaches for the National Schools Symphony Orchestra (Head of Wind) and is an Instrumental Tutor at the University of Bristol. Catriona studied at St Hilda’s College, Oxford and the Royal Northern College of Music, and won the UK Howarth Clarinet Competition. Her teachers included Dame Thea King and John Bradbury.
