The Lyons Mouth

The Lyons Mouth is a dynamic vocal consort of young professional singers, acclaimed for emotionally charged performances and imaginative programming. Founded in 2022 by musicians who met at the University of York under Robert Hollingworth (I Fagiolini), the group was inspired to create an ensemble placing drama and storytelling at the heart of vocal music.

The Lyons Mouth has quickly established itself on the UK and European scene. Its members sing with ensembles such as the BBC Singers, I Fagiolini, The Swingles, Voces8, Tenebrae, Dunedin Consort, and The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir. This shared experience shapes their versatile style, combining refinement with daring energy.

Their concerts span Renaissance madrigals, Baroque masterpieces, and bold new works, often presented with theatrical flair. Recent venues include St Martin-in-the-Fields, Manchester’s Stoller Hall, St John’s Waterloo, and festivals including Stour, Brecon Baroque, and Utrecht Early Music Fringe (2025). Upcoming performances in Dalston (London), York, Surrey, Bedford Sings Festival (2026), and as part of the Brighton Early Music Festival as Emerging Artists (2025-2026) feature their programmes YOUNG AGAIN, The Byrds and The Bees, and Victoria’s Secret.

They have released striking performance films, including Young Again (setting John Wilbye’s madrigal Thou art but young) and Monteverdi’s Lamento d’Arianna, alongside their contributions to the album A Plastic Theatre by Joanna Marsh (Signum Records, 2025). Their video of Marsh’s In Winter’s House was Gramophone’s Video of the Day. A new album of Stef Conner’s music follows in 2026.

With artistry that bridges tradition and innovation, The Lyons Mouth is carving out a distinctive voice in today’s choral landscape.
