Join us on our adventure as we weave in and out of different eras and countries exploring the wind quintet repertoire!

Samuel Barber’s Summer Music is a much beloved work by wind players around the world, and Anton Reicha is one of the most prolific writers for this combination of instruments; this Andante and Adagio are standalone movements featuring the cor anglais. Virtuosic repertoire for woodwind instruments boomed in France in the early twentieth century, and we have included a quintet by the prolific Parisian composer Claude Arrieu, which was the pen name of Louise-Marie Simon.  The modern wind quintet is still thriving today and we end with a piece by Valerie Coleman, who was the former flautist of the American wind quintet Imani Winds.  Alongside these quintet works we will have smaller ensemble pieces by Olivier Truan, and British composer Frank Bridge’s quirky Divertimenti which features two duet movements.

Barber – Summer Music, Op.31
Arrieu – Quintette en Ut
Olivier Truan – The Chase, for flute and clarinet
Reicha – Andante arioso and Adagio pour le cor anglais
Bridge – Divertimenti for wind quartet
Valerie Coleman – Tzigane
