Joseph Gascoigne

Joseph Gascoigne has recently completed a PhD at the University of York, examining the history of corruption in the post-colonial Caribbean. At York he has worked closely with the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre, helping deliver a project on “The Politics of Hope.” This provided a perfect opportunity to explore his other great passion – Dante’s Divine Comedy – through an article series on the poetical, philosophical, and even political role of hope in the Comedy. He is a passionate advocate for the importance of Dante’s work – including La Vita Nuova – for all audiences and would argue that the Comedy is as relevant today as it was seven centuries ago. When not obsessing about Hell, Joseph works as a Research Associate at the University of York.
