TALK – Field Notes : how birds inspire music

In this talk Laurence Rose features some of the birds that have inspired composers across the centuries. What is it about bird song that makes for great music? Not simply melodic beauty, as both Beethoven and Messiaen knew. Norfolk has some of the richest birdlife in Britain, including many of the 77 species featured in Messiaen’s Catalogue d’Oiseaux.
