Karen Burnell – Chief Steward

Karen Burnell has been attending the summer school for many years as participant and volunteer in many guises. Now retired from her career in higher education governance, she continues with her music and has also recently taken up ballroom dancing so the summer school tango sessions are right up her street. Musically, Karen is a tenor horn player who was brought up through the brass band fraternity.

Whilst continuing to play with brass bands she is also a champion of new music and is highly active in the contemporary and experimental music scene, frequently performing as a core member of the CoMA London (Contemporary Music for All) ensemble playing new pieces by both established and up and coming composers.

Karen is very much looking forward to this year’s summer school and hopes to welcome you there.
