Debipriya Sircar

Debipriya Sircar, a London-born sitarist and vocalist, embarked on her musical journey at age 4 under her mother’s guidance. Trained by eminent figures such as Pandit Manesh Chandra Kansara (sitar) and Sri Golak Mohan Choudhury (voice) in her early years, she later became a disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, one of the finest exponents of North Indian Classical Vocal music. She received tuition in sitar from the late Pandit Sanjay Guha (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, UK).

Her diverse musical ventures include portraying the ‘Indian Queen’ in the new opera ‘Calcutta’ by Ensemble Tempus Fugit and collaborating on ‘Blake Reimagined’ with Ex Cathedra and Jeffrey Skidmore. Notable performances include contributing to Pandit Ravi Shankar’s centenary celebrations in a concert led by his daughter Anoushka Shankar, collaborating with BBC Singers for Reena Esmail’s ‘This Love Between Us,’ and featuring in the London Mozart Players’ ‘Oratorio of Hope’ for the launch of Croydon’s year as London Borough of Culture in 2023.

Based in Stratford (East London) Debipriya combines her music with a full-time job as a Flow Cytometrist at The Francis Crick Institute in London.
